5 French francs Shepherd "Berger" banknote created on 2 June 1943, and put into circulation from August 21, 1943 by the Bank of France. This banknote was issued for replacing the 5 francs Violet.
This banknote was issued into circulation until 1947 and was withdrawn from circulation in 1950.
This note deprived of legal tender on 1 January 1963.
This banknote is also called "Five francs Shepherd and Woman wearing." It was painted and engraved by Clement Serveau by Ernest George and Deloche Hourriez in polychrome colors in range.
Obverse: Portrait of a young Pyrenean shepherd in a beret and with stick, mountainous landscape with a village on a background.
Reverse: Portrait of a young girl wearing a white cap and with a scarf of green moiré passed around the shoulders and chest, and with gold necklace and cross - traditional woman costume of the region of Agen - all surrounded by colorful flowers.
Watermark: Portrait in profile of Bernard Palissy, was born in Agen.
Dimensions are 100 mm x 62 mm, that making it the smallest French banknote.
